Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The phones sank the Patriots this weekend: C+.

Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

The Banks Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If Wells Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They read the board right and Jihaad Campbell was the payoff at pick No. 45. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick47 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at No. 69 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77 Rnd3 Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in slot 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick106 Rnd4 David Walker
A straight-up fair deal on David Walker at the 106th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in the 144th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 Antwane Wells Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Antwane Wells Jr. in pick 171, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
