Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chargers did exactly that with LaJohntay Wester in Round 6, Pick 38. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Fannin Jr.. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
A reach on TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 37; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick55 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at the 55th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in pick 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick86 Rnd3 Charles Grant
No edge and no loss on Charles Grant in slot 86; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick108 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
No drama and no debate, Zy Alexander went about where he belonged in the 108th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at Round 4, Pick 23 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick158 Rnd5 CJ West
This one needs a full-page explanation: CJ West in the 158th overall pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jalen McLeod
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen McLeod well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick199 Rnd6 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 199th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They read the board right and Oronde Gadsden II was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 33. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214 Rnd6 LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at pick 214 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick256 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
A reach for Marcus Yarns in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
