The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Princewill Umanmielen in the 233rd overall pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Wheatley value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In slot 12 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29
Rnd1
Christen Miller
Christen Miller at pick No. 29 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick44
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Fair-plus on Anthony Hill Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in pick 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick153
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
They read the board right and Eric Rivers was the payoff at No. 153. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Aaron Graves at the 177th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at No. 224 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233
Rnd7
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen in pick No. 233 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
