Sharo DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B. For all the boxes ticked, the 49ers skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Getting Golday where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The cost of the Lomu reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jake Slaughter in slot 58. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Jake Golday at the 92nd overall pick is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick127
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
No edge and no loss on CJ Daniels in the 127th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in pick 133 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jalen Stroman
No drama and no debate, Jalen Stroman went about where he belonged in pick No. 138. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick171
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at Round 5, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
