Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureC
The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the D-. There is reaching, and then there is Carson Steele at slot 234. The Texans jumped the board by 60 and dared it to prove them wrong. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. However the rest shakes out, Egbuka at that price is a win they earned. The Texans paired the rookies with proven help, Fred Warner leading the way.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
T'Vondre Sweat
In the 30th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 3. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A wild overpay on Cooper Beebe in slot 36, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick43
Rnd2
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 43rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
D.J. James
D.J. James at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick82
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
No edge and no loss on TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 82; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
No drama and no debate, Adisa Isaac went about where he belonged in pick 92. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Junior Colson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Junior Colson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Travis this early at the 117th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cade Stover
A reach on Cade Stover in No. 126; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick154
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at slot 154 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick166
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Moore at the 166th pick, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick234
Rnd7
Carson Steele
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Steele in pick No. 234, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick238
Rnd7
Tim Smith
Tim Smith at No. 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
