Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Hunter: B-.

Somebody in Round 7, Pick 16 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Jarquez Hunter, the No. 191 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Turner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in pick 14 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick38 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to the 38th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
No edge and no loss on Aireontae Ersery in slot 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
They went early on Shemar Turner in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick77 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Good price on Cameron Williams in No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at Round 4, Pick 4 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Shough. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
They took Ajani Cornelius at par in the 171st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oronde Gadsden II in No. 220, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter at the 232nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 238th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
