Draft Grade — Browns

Allen should have been long gone. The Browns pounced, and earned a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how LeQuint Allen got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at pick 192.
If Hayes pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In slot 2 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tetairoa McMillan
Circle this one: Tetairoa McMillan at Round 2, Pick 1 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A premium they did not need to pay, Ozzy Trapilo a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
No drama and no debate, Darius Alexander went about where he belonged in pick 94. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
A tidy little value on Zy Alexander in No. 104, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick192
Rnd6
LeQuint Allen
Somehow LeQuint Allen was still sitting there in pick No. 192, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Value with a capital V on Clay Webb in the 200th overall pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Howard Cross III. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick255
Rnd7
Dayon Hayes
Dayon Hayes at pick No. 255 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
