Helm should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Gunnar Helm got past him. The Bills do not have to explain a thing at the 177th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

The dealing was even money, start to finish.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
