Draft Grade — Chargers

FutureB
Stutsman should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Chargers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Stutsman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cost of the Loveland reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 17th pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at the 43rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick48
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in No. 48 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick109
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick118
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
They will replay Danny Stutsman at pick 118 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick153
Rnd5
Tonka Hemingway
A reach for Tonka Hemingway in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts in Round 5, Pick 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick180
Rnd6
Mansoor Delane
They took Mansoor Delane at par in pick 180, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190
Rnd6
Makari Paige
They paid up for Makari Paige at slot 190 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick213
Rnd6
Amari Kight
The board fumbled Amari Kight all the way to the 213th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Kyren Lacy
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kyren Lacy in the Round 7 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jacobe Covington
Jacobe Covington in the 250th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
