Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureC+
The 49ers turned the phones into found money: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 60 spots for Solomon Tuliaupupu, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Everette pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Iapani Laloulu
By-the-book stuff, Iapani Laloulu at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60 Rnd2 Caleb Lomu
No drama and no debate, Caleb Lomu went about where he belonged in pick 60. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jaeden Roberts
They liked Jaeden Roberts enough to skip the value, taking him in the 64th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92 Rnd3 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at Round 3, Pick 28 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick100 Rnd3 DeMonte Capehart
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 100, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd3 Amare Campbell
Nice patience on Amare Campbell, who had no business lasting to slot 102. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at the 124th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick128 Rnd4 Rod Moore
A tidy bit of business in pick 128, where Rod Moore graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132 Rnd4 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in the 132nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick134 Rnd4 Tree Babalade
A reach for Tree Babalade in Round 4, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142 Rnd5 Lander Barton
A tidy little value on Lander Barton in pick No. 142, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Nolan Rucci
A straight-up fair deal on Nolan Rucci at No. 165, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167 Rnd5 Khalil Barnes
Khalil Barnes in slot 167 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Barion Brown
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Barion Brown. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
J.Michael Sturdivant in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206 Rnd6 Solomon Tuliaupupu
A wild overpay on Solomon Tuliaupupu in Round 6, Pick 30, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Hall this early at slot 222. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick241 Rnd7 TJ Ferguson
They talked themselves into TJ Ferguson at pick 241, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
