Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Falcons: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Falcons did exactly that with DeMonte Capehart in the Round 7 slot. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Rosengarten value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In slot 8 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in the 43rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in pick 109, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick145 Rnd5 Austin Booker
Austin Booker at Round 5, Pick 9 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten is a better player than the 189th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick201 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on De'Corian Clark. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
A big swing on DeMonte Capehart at Round 7, Pick 24, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
