Hclam22 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
The 49ers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. Somebody in pick 249 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 151 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
So much rides on Jaxson Dart that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. If Fitzgerald pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The 49ers indulged a want in Fitzgerald while a need in offensive lineman and edge rusher stayed open.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jaxson Dart
A wild overpay on Jaxson Dart in slot 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in No. 43 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Somehow Harold Fannin Jr. was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick100
Rnd3
Ryan Fitzgerald
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 100 on Ryan Fitzgerald with offensive lineman and edge rusher unsolved.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
Good price on Mello Dotson in pick No. 138, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
A quiet steal in the 147th pick: LeQuint Allen for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick160
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Cody Simon in pick 160 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick227
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
They liked Brant Kuithe enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 227. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Bhayshul Tuten
You do not let a running back like Bhayshul Tuten reach the 249th overall pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
