Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Aeneas Peebles in the 58th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

That Ferguson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles at Round 2, Pick 26 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Smael Mondon Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at pick 89 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
They barely believed it either: Terrance Ferguson still on the board at No. 166. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick236 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Cam Jackson worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad slid further than he should have, and the 241st pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
