Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB-
The Browns finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B. Start where it matters. The Browns took Cam Ward to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Conner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Johnson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In the 2nd pick they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at No. 33 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 3 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in the 104th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 179 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Howard Cross III this early at slot 192. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200
Rnd6
RJ Oben
A big swing on RJ Oben at pick 200, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at slot 216 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
