Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B+
ValueA NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
Evans should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Mitchell Evans, the No. 143 name on the board, stolen at the 251st overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Porter pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at offensive lineman and quarterback. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at No. 56 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick63 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau slid further than he should have, and slot 63 is lovely value for the edge rusher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick109 Rnd4 Tre Harris
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 7 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Maxwell Hairston
They will replay Maxwell Hairston at the 132nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 Darien Porter
A surprising call. With offensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent pick 133 on Darien Porter, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick169 Rnd5 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner in pick No. 169 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jordan James
You do not let a running back like Jordan James reach the 170th pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick173 Rnd5 Kobe King
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Kobe King in slot 173, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177 Rnd6 Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles in the 177th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206 Rnd6 Pat Bryant
Taking Pat Bryant in Round 6, Pick 30 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251 Rnd7 Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in pick 251 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
