Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chargers a B-.

The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Tyler Batty, taking him 67 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They banked enough surplus on Burke to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
They paid sticker price for Harold Fannin Jr. in the 55th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at Round 3, Pick 22 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124 Rnd4 Denzel Burke
Taking Denzel Burke in pick No. 124 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159 Rnd5 Tyler Batty
A big swing on Tyler Batty at pick 159, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 177 with a little surplus value in Jack Nelson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick183 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They took KeAndre Lambert-Smith at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick201 Rnd6 Akili Arnold
No edge and no loss on Akili Arnold in slot 201; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick215 Rnd6 Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers in the 215th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Fair-plus on Jamon Dumas-Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick253 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Value with a capital V on Clay Webb in Round 7, Pick 35, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
