Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Wells Jr. should have been long gone. The Dolphins pounced, and earned a B-. Call it larceny. Antwane Wells Jr. sat on the board until No. 224, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If Hawes pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In No. 13 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
Pick48
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
Nothing to complain about; T.J. Sanders went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Good price on Charles Grant in the 98th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
They did well to land Billy Bowman Jr. in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Circle this one: Joshua Farmer at pick No. 135 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at Round 5, Pick 12 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jah Joyner
A straight-up fair deal on Jah Joyner at the 155th pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Antwane Wells Jr.
They barely believed it either: Antwane Wells Jr. still on the board at pick 224. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A big swing on Jackson Hawes at pick 231, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick253
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
No drama and no debate, Cody Lindenberg went about where he belonged in slot 253. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
