Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Lions let Bullock fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Call it larceny. Calen Bullock sat on the board until the Round 4 slot, and the Lions did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The cost of the Bills reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick57 Rnd2 DJ James
A clean, defensible pick in the 57th pick with a little surplus value in DJ James. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick61 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braden Fiske in pick 61. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick74 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
They did well to land Patrick Paul in slot 74, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cade Stover
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
They paid sticker price for Kris Abrams-Draine in pick No. 83, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick109 Rnd4 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 4, Pick 9 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at No. 121 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at the 125th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in the 164th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick201 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
The board had cheaper options than Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 6, Pick 26, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 Evan Williams
Evan Williams in pick 205 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick213 Rnd6 Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills in slot 213 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Miyan Williams at pick No. 249, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
