tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Marcus Harris; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 71 spots ahead at No. 252. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
A clean, defensible pick in pick 43 with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Good price on Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick100
Rnd3
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in Round 3, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at the 113th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
They jumped the gun on Aeneas Peebles, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick147
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijah Roberts this early at Round 5, Pick 9. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick160
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Nick Nash at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in slot 227 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They paid up for Teddye Buchanan at the 249th pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick252
Rnd7
Marcus Harris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marcus Harris in No. 252, miles early. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
