The needs board said one thing and the 49ers did another, using No. 138 on Nohl Williams while wide receiver, running back and other spots waited.

Reaching for Kiser left real value on the table behind him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
