Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in slot 104: the Panthers steal Pearsall and grade out a D.

The phones were a trap the Panthers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Pearsall at that price is a win they earned.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry at Round 1, Pick 17 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick33 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in No. 33 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brian Thomas Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at the Round 3 slot is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick101 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
No drama and no debate, Tate Ratledge went about where he belonged in the 101st overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104 Rnd4 Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall in pick 104 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni in the 111th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd5 Max Melton
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at slot 138. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163 Rnd5 Cedric Johnson
No edge and no loss on Cedric Johnson in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis is a better player than the 168th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III in pick 182 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Darius Robinson
A slide stopped in No. 189, with Darius Robinson worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick222 Rnd7 Theo Wease
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 2: Theo Wease for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
