67 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
Klubnik should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B-. The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cade Klubnik fell into the Round 4 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Lomu pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
They went early on Caleb Lomu in pick No. 26, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in Round 2, Pick 27 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the 90th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Good price on Tacario Davis in slot 133, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in pick 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick171
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
No drama and no debate, J'Mari Taylor went about where he belonged in No. 171. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
