Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chargers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Mycah Pittman in the 183rd pick, a good 171 spots before the room expected him.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Colson.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In No. 5 they get a security blanket over the middle. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in slot 37 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They took Brenden Rice at par in the 69th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 83 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Somehow Junior Colson was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick105 Rnd4 Josh Newton
Steal is underselling it; Josh Newton at the 105th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick 142 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick157 Rnd5 LaDarius Henderson
No edge and no loss on LaDarius Henderson in No. 157; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. The roster fit checks out.
Pick183 Rnd6 Mycah Pittman
A real head-scratcher, Mycah Pittman in the 183rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 6, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
