Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the 49ers.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 51 spots for TJ Ferguson, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ponds. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Iapani Laloulu
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Iapani Laloulu. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jaeden Roberts
They went early on Jaeden Roberts in the 59th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick60 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Caleb Tiernan in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92 Rnd3 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in the 92nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They barely believed it either: D'Angelo Ponds still on the board at pick 102. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120 Rnd4 Raylen Wilson
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 18, where Raylen Wilson graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127 Rnd4 Luke Hasz
Luke Hasz at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128 Rnd4 Barion Brown
Barion Brown at No. 128 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick167 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at the 167th overall pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick174 Rnd5 Fernando Carmona
A wild overpay on Fernando Carmona in slot 174, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jack Velling
They paid sticker price for Jack Velling in the 206th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240 Rnd7 TJ Ferguson
TJ Ferguson at pick 240 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
Value said wait; Jordan Hall in pick No. 241 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
