Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The 49ers let Emmanwori fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Nick Emmanwori, the No. 20 name on the board, sitting there at the 56th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They are betting Bryant proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Mike Green
In slot 30 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the 56th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in the 62nd pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75 Rnd3 T.J. Sanders
Circle this one: T.J. Sanders at No. 75 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90 Rnd3 Charles Grant
By-the-book stuff, Charles Grant at pick No. 90 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in pick 100, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at Round 4, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick113 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
Value said wait; Pat Bryant in pick 113 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
They paid a round early for O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 138, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick147 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at Round 5, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
They let Malachi Moore come to them and pounced at the 149th pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommi Hill. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They barely believed it either: Dont'e Thornton Jr. still on the board at slot 204. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Davin Vann
Davin Vann at the 249th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in the 252nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
