Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesD FutureA+
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent Round 4, Pick 36 on Luke Lachey, a name most had 74 spots down the list. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Bassa steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
Value said wait; Kyle Kennard in No. 49 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They liked Charles Grant enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 75. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
They took Darius Alexander at par in pick No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jacob Parrish
They reached a country mile for Jacob Parrish at the 100th pick, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jamaree Caldwell
A premium they did not need to pay, Jamaree Caldwell a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in pick No. 136 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd4 Luke Lachey
A big swing on Luke Lachey at slot 138, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
They let LeQuint Allen come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 9. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick153 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
They reached into another round for Elijah Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Good price on Nick Nash in No. 160, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at the 227th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A reach for Teddye Buchanan in pick 249; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
They paid sticker price for Jabbar Muhammad in the 252nd pick, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
