Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Cowboys let Monangai fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Kyle Monangai, the No. 212 name on the board, sitting there at the 247th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

The Etienne pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Justin Strnad gives the group a proven body among the projects.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the 20th overall pick they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in No. 45 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick51 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at slot 51 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76 Rnd3 Trey Amos
Trey Amos at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick117 Rnd4 Trevor Etienne
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Etienne. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They paid sticker price for O'Donnell Fortune in the 149th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Clay Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Clay Webb this early at pick No. 174. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick204 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kyle Williams in slot 204, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208 Rnd6 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson slid further than he should have, and the 208th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211 Rnd6 Nazir Stackhouse
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nazir Stackhouse in the Round 6 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in No. 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
The board fumbled Kyle Monangai all the way to the 247th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
