You build a draft on nights like this. Luke McCaffrey had no business being available in pick 216, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the real verdict is a season or two away.
