Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a B+.

Nobody else had Nelson Ceaser anywhere near Round 4, Pick 22. The Bears did, by 43 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Cooper steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

With running back and cornerback unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 2nd pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Joe Alt
Joe Alt at slot 9 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick36 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
Nothing to complain about; J.J. McCarthy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at the 67th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Maason Smith. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick78 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with running back and cornerback open.
Pick122 Rnd4 Nelson Ceaser
Value said wait; Nelson Ceaser in Round 4, Pick 22 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
