The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: A-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If Rice pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Kelee Ringo deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In the end it comes back to Caleb Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In No. 27 they get juice off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Good price on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 71st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A reach for Mohamed Kamara in slot 120; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in the 122nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick172
Rnd5
AJ Barner
AJ Barner in pick No. 172 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
