rac DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 148.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nolen. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get an every-down engine for the run game. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in No. 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick41
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They barely believed it either: Walter Nolen still on the board at pick 41. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
No drama and no debate, Mason Taylor went about where he belonged in the 72nd pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick148
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 148th overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in slot 233 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
A tidy bit of business in No. 240, where Phil Mafah graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
