Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
C
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: C. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
However the rest shakes out, Bullock at that price is a win they earned. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 1st overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In No. 9 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick75
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
You do not let a linebacker like Edgerrin Cooper reach pick 75 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at pick No. 87 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122
Rnd4
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick216
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire at slot 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
