Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: C. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Baker. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The Solomon reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Caleb Williams and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams in No. 1 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick9
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 9th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jonah Elliss
Jonah Elliss in slot 75 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick122
Rnd4
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at pick 122 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
A quiet steal in pick No. 216: Ryan Flournoy for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
