The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots stayed open. The Smith pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.
