A franchise passer in Williams headlines a B- weekend for the Bears. The Bears spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
On value alone, McCaffrey makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
They took Jared Verse at par in pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
The board had Zak Zinter higher than the 122nd pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick137
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Value with a capital V on Johnny Wilson in the 137th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at Round 6, Pick 18. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
