The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: B-. Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If Smith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In No. 9 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Maason Smith in pick 75, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
