Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B-, for the Bears. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Zinter at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In No. 9 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They reached into another round for Maason Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Value with a capital V on Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 22, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
