The Bears spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. Getting Devonshire where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
