The Saints did not so much draft Javontae Jean-Baptiste as overpay for him, 40 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

They have staked the next five years on Bo Nix, which is the only story that really matters here. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Simpson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
