The Bears let Bassa fall into their laps, and walked away with a A.

Somebody in pick 211 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 127 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Ashton Jeanty and all.
