Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Eagles let Fautanu fall and pounced. Final grade: D-. Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
With interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Getting Fautanu where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick No. 23 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick25
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In slot 25 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in pick 35. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick50
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick54
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick60
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
The board fumbled Troy Fautanu all the way to No. 60, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots to take Junior Colson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Fair-plus on Jalen McMillan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick97
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
They let Christian Mahogany come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Good price on Zak Zinter in the 99th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick137
Rnd5
Beaux Limmer
By-the-book stuff, Beaux Limmer at the 137th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick163
Rnd5
Austin Booker
Austin Booker at pick No. 163 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 3 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jalen Berger
Somehow Jalen Berger was still sitting there in slot 225, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick243
Rnd7
Mark Perry
Mark Perry at Round 7, Pick 23 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
