Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Of all the ways to open, the Bills chose the head-scratcher, spending No. 132 on Dorian Strong with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still wide open.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Hairston pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That Strong pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 30 they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 56 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick62
Rnd2
Carson Schwesinger
They went early on Carson Schwesinger in pick 62, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at slot 109 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Dorian Strong at cornerback with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Kyle Williams at the 169th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170
Rnd5
CJ West
A conviction pick on CJ West at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick173
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
A tidy little value on Chase Lundt in the 173rd pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
A reach on Jaylen Reed in No. 177; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick206
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in pick No. 206 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
