FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bills: B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bills took Upton Stout at the 154th pick, roughly 38 spots before his name belonged.
Pierce falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Good price on Emeka Egbuka in slot 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick56
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 56 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick65
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at Round 3, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick99
Rnd3
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at the 99th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
No edge and no loss on Mello Dotson in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick154
Rnd5
Upton Stout
This one needs a full-page explanation: Upton Stout in pick 154, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick169
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick 169 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick170
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 170 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick173
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 173rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd6
Tommi Hill
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tommi Hill at pick No. 177. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick206
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
No drama and no debate, Caleb Ransaw went about where he belonged in the 206th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
