SCB0019 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB
Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Steelers a D+, Allar and all. Somebody in the 179th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Drew Allar, the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Steelers indulged a want in Brailsford while a need in edge rusher stayed open.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Reid lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick50
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Anthony Hill Jr. at the 50th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jayden Maiava
Value with a capital V on Jayden Maiava in Round 2, Pick 30, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kamari Ramsey
They let Kamari Ramsey come to them and pounced at slot 67. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Eric Singleton Jr.
No edge and no loss on Eric Singleton Jr. in No. 76; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Cayden Green
Cayden Green at the 84th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94
Rnd3
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese in pick 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101
Rnd4
Justice Haynes
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justice Haynes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick130
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
DJ McKinney in pick No. 130 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A surprising call. With edge rusher still to address, they spent pick No. 133 on Parker Brailsford, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick147
Rnd5
Nic Anderson
No drama and no debate, Nic Anderson went about where he belonged in No. 147. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165
Rnd5
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at Round 5, Pick 24 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171
Rnd5
Terrance Carter Jr.
Somehow Terrance Carter Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick179
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 179th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick183
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in the 183rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick191
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
By-the-book stuff, Rayshaun Benny at slot 191 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick210
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
A tidy little value on Raylen Wilson in pick 210, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216
Rnd6
Desmond Reid
They paid a round early for Desmond Reid in the 216th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia is a better player than No. 247 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
