Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Browns let Williams fall and pounced. Final grade: D+. Somebody took the Browns to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
They barely believed it either: Xavier Legette still on the board at the 55th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
A slide stopped in the 75th pick, with Caelen Carson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in pick 110 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick112
Rnd4
Michael Pratt
The board had Michael Pratt higher than No. 112, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tyrice Knight
Tyrice Knight in slot 122 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaheim Bell. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at No. 146 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
A quiet steal in the 147th overall pick: Malik Mustapha for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
They paid a round early for Layden Robinson in Round 5, Pick 14, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in pick 187 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
Nice patience on JD Bertrand, who had no business lasting to the 205th pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick231
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
You do not let a wide receiver like Isaiah Williams reach slot 231 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
Sheridan Jones is a better player than slot 234 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Zion Logue
They went early on Zion Logue in pick 238, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick254
Rnd7
Donell Harris Jr.
Donell Harris Jr. at No. 254 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick256
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus in the 256th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
