Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Commanders bet the future on Williams. The board says B+.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Muhammad III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 36th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Tavion Sanders at Round 2, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick141 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
Good price on Mike Sainristil in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
Taking Moose Muhammad III in No. 181 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They liked Blake Watson enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 223. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
