The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Patriots did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Mukuba that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
