The Cardinals lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 80 spots for Isaiah Davis, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will answer for taking defensive back early while edge rusher went begging.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
So much rides on Kool-Aid McKinstry that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kool-Aid McKinstry adds a defensive back and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick15
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 15th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Barrett Carter
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Barrett Carter. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tory Horton
A big swing on Tory Horton at pick No. 66, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72
Rnd3
Terrion Arnold
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 3 slot on Terrion Arnold with edge rusher unsolved.
Pick74
Rnd3
Tyler Davis
A wild overpay on Tyler Davis in pick 74, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 79, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in pick No. 102 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133
Rnd4
Bryce Foster
Value said wait; Bryce Foster in the 133rd pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick169
Rnd5
Caden Prieskorn
Caden Prieskorn at pick 169 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in No. 198 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223
Rnd7
Will Rogers
Will Rogers at Round 7, Pick 3 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick224
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
They reached into another round for Josh Proctor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
