Larceny in pick 179 lands the Seahawks a B, Williams and all. You could see the war room lean forward. James Williams at pick No. 179 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every board in the league had Taylor lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 30th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Junior Colson
A tidy little value on Junior Colson in pick 58, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at slot 81 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at No. 91 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
Value said wait; McKinnley Jackson in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould at Round 4, Pick 18 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179
Rnd6
James Williams
They will replay James Williams at pick No. 179 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
