Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-.

For all the boxes ticked, the 49ers skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Mathews Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They are betting Parker II proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu in No. 27 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Brian Parker II
A premium they did not need to pay, Brian Parker II a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
A clean, defensible pick in the 92nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Nicholas Singleton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers in Round 4, Pick 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon slipping to pick No. 133 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jalen Stroman
They paid sticker price for Jalen Stroman in the 138th pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They let Jermaine Mathews Jr. come to them and pounced at pick 171. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
